After Reuben's death in 2003, Alyce moved into assisted living apartments in Osakis, until her failing health required a move closer to family.
Alyce was very active and a life member of the Osakis VFW Auxiliary, serving as its president six times. She also became active in the District VFW Auxiliary leadership, serving in various offices and chairmanship roles, including President.
