Kathleen 'Kathy' Berg

Kathleen Berg, age 88 of Osakis passed peacefully into her new life on Sunday morning, Nov. 5, 2017 from the Galeon in Osakis, MN.
Kathleen Frances Becker was born on August 16, 1929 in Carlos, MN to Peter W. and Katherine C. (Schlosser) Becker. She grew up on a farm near Belle River and on October 5, 1948 was united in marriage to Aven W. Berg at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River, MN. They lived in Montana for a time and also in Nebraska before moving back to Minnesota and settling in Osakis. Kathy was a busy mother and working woman who did a multitude of jobs. She candled eggs in the early years and did day care as she raised her own two children. She also did a laundry service, washing, starching and ironing clothes for clients. In the evenings she also bartended at the local VFW Post. When she was hired by the Osakis Public Schools to work in their food service department, Kathy settled in to a more regular routine and served thousands of students over her thirty years there as a cook.
Kathy was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis and belonged to the Christian Mothers. She also was a member of both the Osakis VFW and Community Memorial Home Auxiliaries. Kathy created hundreds of quilts for military veterans and volunteered many hours to her church and community over the years. She also helped at the VFW with bingo, volunteered at the local nursing home and made many meals and baked goods to share with others. She was an excellent cook and her family will especially miss her homemade potato dumplings. Kathy's hobbies included going fishing with Aven, playing horseshoes, gardening, camping, and bowling. She loved nature and being outdoors. She was a beautiful woman who gave of herself unceasingly. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and the community she loved. Blessed be her memory.
She is survived by her son, Ron (Vianne) Berg of Forest Lake, MN and a daughter, Carol (Owen) Michaelson of Osakis; 5 grandchildren, Craig, Crystal, Curtis and Caitlyn Michaelson, Erin Long; 2 great grandchildren, Aviana Long, Cameron Tubbs; her sisters, Gloria Therkildsen of Alexandria, Millie (Dick) Garside of Beaver Dam, WI, June (Bob) Freidrichs of Sauk Centre, Mary Lou (Larry) Simpson of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Loretta Becker of Osakis; many nieces and nephews.
Kathy is preceded in death by her husband, Aven Berg, her parents and a brother, Harlan Becker.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis with Fr. David Petron officiating. Reader is Vianne Berg. Interment is at the Calvary Cemetery with the Osakis VFW Auxiliary as honorary pallbearers and the urnbearer is her son, Ron Berg. A visitation/gathering time will begin at the church on Thursday morning at 10:00 am.
