Marianne spent the war years in Tacoma, WA, where her father was a war ship welder and her mother was a Rosie the Riveter. After the war, Marianne and her family moved to Missoula, MT, where her father was an independent welder and her mother was a cook. She graduated from Missoula County High School in 1957 and then attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, where she earned her bachelor degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics in 1961. On June 12, 1961 Marianne was united in marriage to Herman Hendrickson in Moorhead, MN. They lived to Iowa City, IA, where Marianne took graduate courses in Inorganic Chemistry. Next they lived in Nashville, TN, where Marianne worked for Dr. Gisela Mosig doing molecular biologic research. In 1967 the first of four children, Erika Rane, was born in Nashville.

Herman spent one year working in New York City and another year commuting to Minneapolis before settling with the family in Little Sauk. The fourth child, Heidi Renee, was born in 1974 during this time.

Marianne was accomplished at hardanger embroidery, knitting, and sewing, particularly for her children and grandchildren. Marianne looked forward to the annual Christmas choral concerts by regional colleges.
